Model Arctic Council in Scotland

Dear All,

See below an exciting opportunity and please pass on to any undergraduate students based in UK (including exchange students) and interested in Arctic policy and broader Arctic issues.

Best wishes,

Anna

Dear Colleagues

Happy New Year to you and my apologies for hijacking the UKAAP mail list.

I wanted to make you aware of a Model Arctic Council event that will be taking place in Oban, 11-13 March. SAMS will be hosting the first Model Arctic Council in Scotland (ScotMAC - http://scotmac.polaraspect.com/).

What is ScotMAC?

"SCOTMAC is one of the only Model Arctic Councils in the world today designed with undergraduates in mind. Students play the roles of delegates from Arctic states and, unusually in model diplomacy, Indigenous peoples. Their challenge is to negotiate unanimous consensus on some of the most pressing challenges facing not only the Arctic and its communities, but by extension our world as a whole."

ScotMAC is being financed by the Scottish Government as part of their Arctic Connections fund.

If you have connections into undergraduate programmes I would be grateful if you could push this information towards them. It is open to all students irrespective of discipline.

Key information

  •  It will be held in Oban from Friday 11 March to Sunday 13 March.
  • Students from a wide range of disciplines are welcome
  • Students on exchange visits to UK are particularly welcomed
  • No previous knowledge of the Arctic is required
  • Registration closes at the end of January
  • Sign up http://scotmac.polaraspect.com/

Very many thanks

Finlo
