Save the date! Durham University's Department of Geography is excited to announce its postgraduate conference "Shifting Environments, Shaping Change," to be held in the historic university city of Durham from 25-26th July 2024. It will be a friendly, informal event to encourage early career researchers within the broad field of geography to share and discuss their research, fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration among the next generation of scholars. The conference will be organized as an in-person event, open to those from UK-based institutions to present in a variety of formats, including 10-minute talks, multiple poster sessions and a film-screening session.

3. Cultural Landscapes: Analyzing the intersection of human culture and geography, exploring how cultural practices shape and are shaped by the environment.

4. Environmental Governance: Exploring the ways in which societies respond to environmental challenges, including policies, strategies, and community-based initiatives.

5. Polar Landscapes: Uncovering dynamics of the Earth's polar regions, from ice sheet dynamics to climate change impacts; human/more-than-human interactions to ecosystem adaptations.

6. Paleogeography: Researching insights into the planet's past configurations and environmental conditions.

7. Geospatial Technologies: Showcasing the latest advancements in GIS, remote sensing, and other geospatial technologies for both physical and social applications.

UK HE survey of carers

Dear Colleagues
I am sharing this final call as we will be closing our survey of carers in UK HE at the end of the month. Many thanks to those of you who have replied.

To be eligible, you need to be employed by a UK-based university and to be a carer (broadly understood, including as a parent, for a friend, a relative etc.). Here's the link:
https://angliaruskin.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/national-carers-survey-uk The outcomes will help us to better understand the experiences of carers in higher education and to provide recommendations to the sector.
We have received ethical approval for this project and are happy to address any question.
Warm wishes
Marie-Pierre Moreau

Dear ASSW participants,

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), in cooperation with UKPN, would like to invite you to register for two exciting events that we are planning for Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW):

We invite participants to join us in this unique presentation style within a relaxed setting to share their stores of working within the magnificent Arctic environment. And you don't have to be a field scientist to join in, you can participate with cartoons, satellite images or other creative means. Imagination and creativity is encouraged!
  • ECR Networking Event, 19:00 on Sunday 24th March: We invite all early career researchers to join APECS and the UKPN at the Summerhall's Library Gallery at 19:00 on Sunday, March 24th for an evening of drinks, food, and friends! If you're interested in attending, please fill out the below form and indicate any dietary restrictions.
