IUGG symposium M04

Dear colleagues,

We’d like to draw your attention to the following symposium to be held at the IUGG conference in Montreal this summer:

M04 - Polar Atmospheric Instrumentation

There are many ways to study and characterise the atmosphere, from the use of ground-based instrumentation and balloons to satellite observations.  This symposium welcomes submissions that cover different atmospheric instrument approaches to studying the depth of the polar atmosphere: the surface, the troposphere to the ionosphere.  New atmospheric instrumentation and their results, new analysis techniques or planned projects/observational research campaigns will be highlighted.  Observational studies that feature polar instrumentation applications are also encouraged in this symposium.

We especially welcome early career researchers to share their work in this field.

The abstract submission deadline is 18th February.

Open science event on detecting high latitude ecosystem change 15th February 2019

Dear UKPN,

Many thanks to those who have already signed up, this is just a reminder that registration for this event closes this *Thursday 7th February*.

We are hosting a one-day meeting on detecting change in high latitude ecosystems on Friday 15th February in the Geography Department at Cambridge University. This event will showcase recent advances in monitoring vegetation change and highlight new technologies and data analysis tools to detect environmental change. We’re specifically looking for research into integrating field and plot sampling data, UAV data and remote sensing. We welcome participants from the research community in all aspects of high-latitude ecosystems including climate responses, environmental changes including anthropogenic factors, modelling, remote sensing, use of UAVs and big data.

This is a great opportunity to present your work, either as a talk or poster, especially for early career researchers, and to network with other researchers. This is an open science event, supported by the Global Britain Fund of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, connected to a UK-Russian research project detecting forest change in northern Russia. This event is free to attend, and the deadline for registration is Thursday 7th February. Logistical details will follow.

We look forward to seeing you in February.
