Dear UKPN,

The next Yorkshire Royal Meteorological Society meeting may be of interest to UKPN members with a talk from Dr Sarah Norris entitled “Antarctica from the Ocean”.  The talk is free to attend and will take place in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds at 7pm

Sarah promises to give a lively and interesting talk about living and working on a ship in Antarctic waters and we hope that some of UKPN will be able to come along. Further details are below and attached. Soft drinks and nibbles are provided from 6:30pm.

Regards,

Hello All,

The next Royal Meteorological Society Yorkshire Centre meeting is Wednesday, 20th June -

“Antarctica from the Ocean”, Dr Sarah Norris, ICAS

Sarah’s talk will give us an insight into what it is like to be sent to Antarctica to work on a research ship studying the interactions between the atmosphere and the ocean.  Find out what it is like to live and work in the Southern Ocean, what happens when a storm hits, and how to get your sea legs. Discover the local wildlife and landscapes of the Antarctic Peninsula and Islands, and how you can swim in the Southern Ocean without getting cold.

The meeting will be held in the level 8 Seminar Room, 6:30pm for refreshments, talk at 7pm.

This is the last meeting before the summer break. It would be great to see many of you there.

The committee is currently planning the Autumn schedule of talks and we will send out more details soon.  We will also be holding an AGM, probably before the start of the Autumn session.

If you have any suggestions for future topics, please get in touch. All our details can be found on the website, http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/research/rmetsoc/.

Thanks,

Lindsay
