IGS-British Branch - UKPN activities

Dear All,

The IGS-BB meeting is to be held in Loughborough this September (see below). We have a slot for a UKPN mentor panel, following the previous success of these sessions, in addition to a polar film festival.

Menor Panel:
If you have an idea for the topic, or if you would like to organise the session, please get in touch. It only takes a small amount of organisation, yet allows you to build contacts with many esteemed academics that you may not have otherwise had links to... A great way to get your name out there!

Film Festival:
The film festival is a public engagement event, formed of a series of short films followed by a public debate. We currently have Frozen Planet, dye experiments in Greenland and Life at the South Pole. If you have a short film (~3 mins) describing your research that you would like to be considered for the early career section of the event, please get in touch.

We look forward to welcoming you to Loughborough!

All the best,

Ella

TRAVEL & DIRECTIONS

Loughborough is at the heart of England in the northernmost part of the county of Leicestershire and being centrally placed it is well served by road, rail and air. Main line road and rail networks link Loughborough directly with the rest of the country and the town itself is served by excellent bus services. Loughborough University is less than two miles away from junction 23 of the M1 motorway. London is one-and-a-half hours away by train, Birmingham one hour and Manchester and Leeds around two hours. There are regular scheduled flights from UK, European and international destinations to East Midlands Airport, only 7 miles away.

Travelling by Car

Loughborough's nearest motorway link is the M1; the campus is just two miles from Junction 23. The university is clearly signed on all the other main approach roads to Loughborough.

Travelling by Coach or Bus

Coach and bus services to and from other parts of Leicestershire and the UK operate from the centre of Loughborough. Travel by National Express or regional bus services to Loughborough then connect with local Kinch bus town services to the Loughborough University campus. The University Shuttle bus service (Kinchbus Number 7) commences from Loughborough Railway station and brings you straight to campus (note that the meeting takes place outside of term time).

Travelling by Rail

Regular services operate between Loughborough and other main line towns - including daily trains to and from London St Pancras International, 90 minutes away. Once at Loughborough's railway station you are just ten minutes away from the campus. From here there is a regular bus service which operates every ten minutes during term time. Taxis to the campus are normally available from the station.

Travelling by Air

East Midlands Airport is only 7 miles away and offers both domestic and international flights.
