FW: Announcement: CLIVAR Early Career Scientist Network

Hello all,
There's probably some overlap between UKPN members, and people for whom this new network wants to be relevant.
If this sounds interesting to you, get involved, and contact Jen at jennifer.riley@noc.ac.uk

CLIVAR Early Career Scientist network

CLIVAR
<http://www.clivar.org?utm_source=Early+Career+Scientists&utm_campaign=34a8afbccf-ECS_Newsletter3_19_2013&utm_medium=email>

(Variability and predictability of the ocean-atmosphere system) is one of the four core projects of the World Climate Research Programme <http://www.wcrp-climate.org/?utm_source=Early+Career+Scientists&utm_campaign=34a8afbccf-ECS_Newsletter3_19_2013&utm_medium=email>

(WCRP). CLIVAR's mission is to facilitate observation analysis and prediction of changes in the Earth's climate system, with a focus on ocean-atmosphere interactions, enabling better understanding of climate variability, predictability, and change, to the benefit of society and the environment in which we live.

CLIVAR is in the process of setting up an Early Career Scientist network <http://www.clivar.org/ECS?utm_source=Early+Career+Scientists&utm_campaign=34a8afbccf-ECS_Newsletter3_19_2013&utm_medium=email>.

Therefore we all have a very unique opportunity to shape the way and define the future path that this network will take.

For a network like this to become successful in the long term we need to have a grassroots approach to its development. What is it that you want? How do you want the network to develop?

Ultimately we need you, your enthusiasm, skills, ideas and participation within the network.

To be eligible you must be within the first 5 years of your PhD.

If you have any comments, ideas or thoughts you would like to share with us it would be great to hear from you. Contact Jen <mailto:jennifer.riley@noc.ac.uk?subject=CLIVAR%20ECS%20Network> at the International CLIVAR Project Office.

We at CLIVAR look forward to working with you and developing this network.

Are you going to EGU 2013?
CLIVAR will be hosting a Townhall meeting called 'Tomorrow's CLIVAR'.
This town hall meeting will provide an opportunity to explore new directions for CLIVAR, with a focus on the role of the oceans in climate and on climate of the oceans. In particular CLIVAR is interested in the emerging needs of the early career scientist community. We would love to see you there!
Date: Monday 8th April
Time: 19:00 - 20:00
Location: Room B5

at the meeting!

Would you be interested in meeting up for an informal drink during EGU, to meet other early career scientists in the CLIVAR community?

If the answer is yes contact Jen
<mailto:jennifer.riley@noc.ac.uk?subject=EGU%20Drinks> (who will also be at EGU) to express your interest.

ECS Survey

We have put together a short (5 minute) survey asking what opportunities you would like to have within the CLIVAR ECS network. These are just a few ideas we have come up with and, you might find that they are not what you want, or you can think of something better. That is why we want you to participate in the survey.
Tell us what you want!

Once we have collated your responses we will be able to present the results to the CLIVAR scientific steering group and work, together with you, to further develop these ideas and initiatives.
Complete the survey now!

A link to the survey can also be found on the CLIVAR ECS website pages <http://www.clivar.org/ECS?utm_source=Early+Career+Scientists&utm_campaign=34a8afbccf-ECS_Newsletter3_19_2013&utm_medium=email#Survey>.

Please can you complete the survey by Sunday 21st April 2013.
