APECS week workshop events: 17th and 18th March

Dear UKPN mailing list!

I am involved in a project titled 'Building, enabling and valuing UK-Russian research capacity to address climate change effects on Arctic marine ecosystems'. We are running two workshop events on the Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th March during the APECS Polar week. All researchers within the fields of Arctic, marine and coastal ecosystems and climate science who are interested are invited to join us for a valuable discussion on the future of the field.

The project is to enable future collaborations between UK and Russian institutes regarding Arctic science, so I think it should be of particular interest to many of you!

See below for details on the event. To sign up, fill out the online form by following the link here.

All the best,

Dear Sir/Madam

I am emailing on behalf of a current FCDO-funded project titled 'Building, enabling and valuing UK-Russian research capacity to address climate change effects on Arctic marine ecosystems' headed by Principal Investigator Prof. Martin Solan at the University of Southampton. We are excited to invite you to a two-day scientific workshop on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th March.

Wednesday 17th March: This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn about the Project's activities, discover the scientific work carried out at the Discovery Collections and join in on our discussions into the future of Arctic science. We wish to invite Russian and UK scientists with valuable experience in the fields of Arctic, marine and coastal ecosystems and climate science.

Thursday 18th March: This workshop is a training session for the design, set-up and statistical analysis of climate change and biodiversity experiments. The workshop will have guest speakers discussing current UK-Russia collaborative projects, as well as two training talks from experienced researchers on designing biodiversity and ecosystem scenarios. There will be a Q&A and a section committed for future collaboration ideas.

Workshop discussions will involve examining the current and future ecological consequences of climate change over the Arctic. Discussion topics include but not limited to: understanding the complexities in biodiversity responses; reviewing current "hotspots" of scientific activity; evaluating future research needs.

Both workshops will be live in both Russian and English, facilitated by translators. The workshop will be in the format of a remote meeting on the Zoom platform and would last approximately 180 mins.

If you are interested, please sign up using this link. We will forward you the relevant zoom link. We would be delighted to have you join us at the workshop.

Best wishes,
Rhiannon Jones
