LGBTQ+ STEM Day & Polar Pride Day Event - 18th November 11:00-14:00

Good afternoon,

The 18th of November marks both LGBTQ+ STEM DAY and Polar Pride Day. Both days were launched as a celebration and to raise the visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals working in both STEM and the Polar Regions. This year, UKRI Pride Network will be working with NERC, BAS and colleagues to create an engaging and inclusive celebration to mark the day.

During the event you will hear from several guest speakers (including BAS staff and students) about both their work in the research sector and personal journeys as an LGBTQ+ individual or ally. The three-hour event will involve 3 sessions:

  1. Voices of LGBTQ+STEM Day
  2. 'Developing in STEM: The importance of Allyship and reflections in climbing the ladder' – Panel Discussion
  3. Voices of Polar Pride.

You will need to register in advance on Eventbright here where you will find a full programme for the day.

Polar Pride Day launched in 2020 with the support of the Government of the British Antarctic Territory and the Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands with participation from 49 countries! Share your images, stories or celebrations on social media (or ask your comms team or UKPN) using the hashtags #PolarPride, #PolarPrideDay or #PolarPride2021. It would be fantastic to see celebrations wherever you are, but especially if you are in the polar regions or on a ship for November 18th.

On behalf of the DiPSI steering committee,

Madeline
