APECS Glaciology Virtual Poster Session

Hi UKPN Glaciologists,

As you may have seen on "Cryolist", July at APECS is dedicated to Glaciology and as part of this we are organising a 1 hour Virtual Poster Session on the 28th July at 1800 GMT.  This is an opportunity to listen to research from around the world from the comfort of your office!  We have two leading names in glaciology presenting this month:

Martin Sharp, Professor and Chair of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department at University of Alberta and Chair of the IASC Cryosphere Working Group will give a short talk entitled "Glacier contributions to changing sea-level: Arctic Canada awakes".

Helen Fricker, Associate Professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (to be confirmed) will also talk about an aspect of Antarctic Glaciology.

As well as these keynote presentations there will be short poster introductions from a number of APECS members including:
Fiona Seifert, Portland State University - "Origin of surface undulations at the Kamb Ice Stream grounding line, West Antarctica"
Oliver Marsh, University of Canterbury - "Mass balance in the grounding zone of the Beardmore Glacier, Antarctica, based on satellite and ground based remote sensing measurements"

If you would like to listen to these presentations and be involved in the discussion then follow this link at 1800GMT on the 28th: http://connect.canterbury.ac.nz/apecs-vps_jul2011/
If you are not already a member of APECS then please also join our rapidly growing organisation of young scientists from around the world for everything from news and information about upcoming APECS events and workshops to job opportunities, mentors and career development webinars.
