‘Big Saturday’ at the Manchester Museum for Climate Week 2015

Hi UKPN,

I'm emailing about an upcoming outreach event being run by scientists from Manchester Metropolitan University and Liverpool John Moores University at Manchester Museum for Climate Week 2015.

We are having a climate themed 'Big Saturday' on 28th February. It would be a great opportunity to showcase the work done by climate scientists across the UK - we currently have people coming from MMU, LJMU, Manchester University, the Environment Agency, and the British Antarctic Survey.

We're looking for researchers from across the sciences to look at the impacts of climate change on: landscapes, people, ecosystems, oceans, urban environments etc.  The event is aimed at families, and has the broad theme of 'climate past, present, and future' – exploring climate reconstruction, monitoring, and modelling. It will take the form of multiple 'stations' around the museum, each manned by an academic discussing their research. The activities can be as interactive as you choose. It could include: samples for people to look at, microscope slides, computer models, bits of equipment, videos from the field, slideshows etc., and the museum are very happy for you to use their specimens. Essentially, the event can be entirely flexible.

The link (with a little more information) is here:

If you would like to come along with some of your research to interact with the public in a great setting - and example of real outreach interaction, please send me an email (T.P.Lane@LJMU.ac.uk).

Thanks a lot

Tim
