Dear UKPN Members,
We would like to invite the UK community of scientists to consider signing a joint letter calling for strengthened Central Arctic Ocean governance, building upon the Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Agreement. The letter is led by the Arctic science community, open to any scientist, and delivered by the Ocean Conservancy and Oceans North.
You can access the letter, and add your signature if you wish to do so, here: https://only.one/act/cao-science-letter
Please note, this letter should be signed by scientists. The authors of the letter define scientists as anyone who has the expertise and knowledge to engage in and voice support for the letter's content. You are welcome to share the link (and attached postcard) with your scientist colleagues and on any scientist-focused fora (i.e. community boards, newsletters, etc.), but please refrain from sharing publicly. There are a number of other letter formats which can be signed by governments and their agencies, non-governmental organisations, and the general public/citizen letter. We will circulate the letter for the general public in due course.
If you would like further information, please contact Alex Shahbazi (in copy), from the Ocean Conservancy.
The UK Polar Network will be discussing the addition of our organisational 'signature' to the non-governmental organisations' letter in due course.
Our sharing of this link to the scientist's letter is not an endorsement of the letter's content.
Kind regards,
Chloe, on behalf of the UKPN Committee Members
