Re: Arctic Fieldwork Opportunities

Hi both,

Hope you're well!

I don't quite know the details of whether this is going ahead, or whether it will be of any interest to you, but there is a course undertaken by Lancaster University Env Sci/similar undergrads involving glaciology. The field trip over the past few years has been Arolla, Switzerland, where students focus on more physical glaciology/hydrology, but also soil science. The hike to the glacier is quite demanding, but so rewarding!! I'm doing an MRes in glacial geochemistry so have visited a few times, it's an incredible place!!

The person to contact would probably be Phil Haygarth, who has run the trip over the past few years. His email is here: p.haygarth@lancaster.ac.uk

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions/if I can help in any other way! I know it's so hard trying to get fieldwork these days!

Best of luck!

Morgan Jarvie

Subject: Arctic Fieldwork Opportunities

Dear all,

Hope you are well.

Oscar and I are first year geology undergraduates at Durham University and are fascinated by the Arctic and polar environments.

We are reaching out to enquire about potential field work opportunities in the Arctic this summer.

We would love to contribute to research about an important scientific question in this area of study. We hope this could be by providing an extra pair of hands to conduct scientific sampling and analysis. We are very happy to hike and do physical demanding work.

We would be able to fund our travel and accommodation through the Durham University Expedition Society and/or Durham college funds. The deadline for us to apply for these funds is 9th March.

With this in mind, we were wondering whether you have any ongoing or upcoming Arctic research projects that we might be able to contribute to, or could forward this email to anyone you know that is conducting fieldwork this summer?

Kind regards,

Charlie Sawkins & Oscar Billing
