We are seeking to appoint a 2.5-year postdoc in Ice-sheet Modelling and Data Assimilation in the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh.
The post is created as part of the NERC-NSFGEO Pushing the Frontiers project BISTO: Better Ice Sheet forecasts via Transient assimilation and refined Ocean forcing, a joint collaboration between University of Edinburgh, British Antarctic Survey, and Dartmouth College (University), US.
The successful candidate will work closely with the BISTO team while leading investigations into current and future behaviours of the fast-thinning regions of Antarctica through the assimilation of a multi-decadal record of time-evolving satellite velocities and altimetry. Possible lines of investigation include improving the predictability of marine-terminating ice-sheet models; or constraining and understanding poorly-understood processes such as ice-shelf damage; or other avenues that support the aims of BISTO.

WATCH THIS SPACE: There will be another postdoc offered as part of BISTO at the British Antarctic Survey, which will focus on improved modelling of ice-shelf melt rates and coupled ice sheet-ocean modelling. The post is intended to start ~6 months after the post in Edinburgh, and will make use of the developments of BISTO, including those of the Edinburgh team.
