Call for Volunteers at Big Splash STEAM Event, Plymouth

Dear UKPN members,

We're excited to announce an outreach volunteering opportunity with the UK Polar Network as part of The Big Splash STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) event on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th July 2024, at the Tinside Lido in Plymouth!

From the event organisers:

"The Big Splash aims to connect young people between 11-19 years old with local employers from the green and blue economy sectors. This event will provide a platform for your organisation to showcase engaging and educational activities, highlighting the exciting opportunities within STEAM job roles. Unlike traditional careers events, we encourage dynamic, hands-on activities that inspire and ignite excitement for what your organisation does! Additionally, the pool will be available for any demonstrations allowing for innovative and interactive presentations."

The event will engage two groups of young people: the first session will involve small groups of local students from school years 7 and 8, while the second session will focus on young people classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training).

If you would like to be involved in delivering engaging practical activities relating to your research interests or any area of polar science, or have further questions, please get in touch with the UK Polar Network team at festivals@polarnetwork.org. If you are in the Plymouth area and would be interested in taking part in The Big Splash event, we would especially like to hear from you! :)

Best wishes,
