Hello everyone,
Hope you are all well.
This year I have taken on the role of Education and Outreach alongside Robyn.
We have had a few polar pen pal requests in, and I was wondering whether anyone would be able to volunteer themselves to write back to some students. This is a really fun outreach activity and students love to hear about the jobs you do and the experiences that you have! Students will send a letter with questions in and then you simply write back to them answering those questions! We have both primary and secondary schools writing and they can ask the most amazing questions.
Our current requests are:
School | Age group | Area of interest |
New End Primary, Camden, London | Primary – ages 6 -12 | Focus on life as a researcher or about the different animals and their habitat in either the Arctic or Antarctic. |
Bolder Academy | Year 8 – ages 12/13 | Weather and climate in either the Arctic or Antarctic – what is the weather like, what data is taken about the weather, why is this useful etc. |
Felpham | Year 7 – ages 11/12 | Global challenges – what is happening to Antarctica, why is Antarctica important |
St Bedes Inter-Church school | Year 9 – ages 13/14 | Glaciation, importance of glaciers |
Broughton High School | Year 8 – ages 12/13 | Glaciation and polar regions |
If you think you would be able to help with this project then please email me back and I can then match you with the students. Email addresses can be exchanged, and the pen pal activity can begin! Alternatively if you have any questions about the projects then please let know!
Many thanks
Fiona
