APECS get-together @ EGU

For those attending EGU this year... 

Join us for an APECS get-together during the upcoming EGU General
Assembly in Vienna! Organized by APECS Germany and APECS Austria, we
would like to invite you to our splinter meeting for networking,
sharing experiences, presenting activities and much more. The meeting
will be an open space for National Committees and Project Groups to
present their activities, but also for any APECS member (or those
interested in becoming one or alumni) for meeting each other, asking
questions and generally getting inspired.
We will meet on Monday 28 April 14:00-15:45 in Room 2.61 (SPM106).

paid summer placements for undergraduate students in environmental science

Hi all,

the NERC research experience placements (REPs) are currently advertised. This is a great way to gain hands-on experience in environmental science research, and to see if pursuing a career in research - or applying for a PhD position is something for you. There are several projects advertised at the British Antarctic Survey as well.

The Natural History Museum, London,  is offering a 5-day course on Taxonomic skills and field techniques for freshwater ecology and quality funded by NERC, 19-23 May 2025. This course will deliver training in taxonomic skills from algae to invertebrates and field techniques for freshwater sciences, ecology and water quality, with training in practical identification skills tailored to the requirements of the participants. This training initiative targets PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career environmental science researchers and those working in biology, environmental and ecological sectors. The course will benefit those who wish to acquire or enhance their taxonomic expertise, practical identification and field work skills.

Antarctic Flags Project - ARE YOU CURRENTLY IN ANTARCTICA?

Hello all,

 

I hope you are well.

 

If you are currently in Antarctica and have a few minutes to spare, we would really appreciate it if you could photograph a few flags for schools who have sent their artwork to us. Most flags have now been photographed, but we have a few stragglers that were either missed or the person who volunteered had their trip curtailed or cancelled. If you are able to help in the next few weeks I would greatly appreciate if you could photograph between 1 and 4 flags for me.

Cambridge Polar Beers Event : April 9th

Hello!

 

For those in and around Cambridge, come and join us at the Castle Bar on April 9^th for the first Polar Beers of 2025. It will be a fun evening of fascinating talks on Arctic and Antarctic science, a polar-themed quiz with prizes, and great company – all in a relaxed pub setting.

🕖 Time: Doors at 6:30

                     Talks start at 7:00 PM

                     Event wraps up around 9:00 PM
