FINAL REMINDER: CfP: Durham University Postgraduate Geography Conference 2024
Apologies for x-posting
**Call for Papers: Durham University Postgraduate Geography Conference 2024**
Theme: Shifting Environments, Shaping Change
Date: 25-6 July 2024
Location: Calman Learning Centre, Durham University, Stockton Rd, Durham DH1 3LE
Save the date! Durham University's Department of Geography is excited to announce a postgraduate conference on the theme of "Shifting Environments, Shaping Change," to be held in the historic university city of Durham from 25-26th July 2024. It will be a friendly, informal event to encourage early career researchers within the broad field of geography to share and discuss their research, fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration among the next generation of scholars. The conference will be organized as an in-person event, open to those from UK-based institutions to present in a variety of formats, including 10-minute talks, multiple poster sessions and a film-screening session.
We are also excited to announce that Dr Jason Luger, Asst Professor at Northumbria University Newcastle, will be delivering our keynote speech. His research focuses on the cultures, politics, contestations, and textures of urban space and place, and we are looking forward to what is sure to be a lively talk.
Potential Themes:
We invite postgraduate students to submit abstracts of original research from perspectives within both physical and human geography. Possible paper themes include but are not limited to:
1. Changing Landscapes: Investigating the dynamic processes and forces shaping the Earth's surface, including landforms, climate change, and natural hazards.
2. Urban Dynamics: Examining the complexities of urban environments, from the impact of globalization on cities to issues of urban sustainability, resilience, and social dynamics.
3. Cultural Landscapes: Analyzing the intersection of human culture and geography, exploring how cultural practices shape and are shaped by the environment.
4. Environmental Governance: Exploring the ways in which societies respond to environmental challenges, including policies, strategies, and community-based initiatives.
5. Geospatial Technologies: Showcasing the latest advancements in GIS, remote sensing, and other geospatial technologies for both physical and social applications.
6. Human/More-than-Human Interactions: Understanding the interconnectedness between humans, environments, and more-than-humans, considering issues such as resource management, conservation, and sustainable development.
Submission Guidelines:
Postgraduate students are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 300 words by 1 May 2024. Please fill out the following form to register and submit your abstract: https://forms.office.com/e/Sitr6xqUpP Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 13 May 2024.
